Maleficent Cake Jars

Dessert

I first started making these little treats in college. Cake in a Mason jar . . . what could be more Southern? Or more to the point, what could be easier to keep and store in a college dorm room? You make the cake, bake it in the jar and then you can put a lid on it and keep it safe and bug free until you're ready to eat it, which is a form environment in South Georgia is a very important thing! Plus you didn't have to hunt down a knife or plate when you were ready to eat it. Just grab a disposable fork, spoon or spork and go.

The idea of making it a Maleficent is pure Disney magic :) You can also do it as a Belle, Cinderella or any Princess. Just change out the colors. These are great as party favors. I used a pint size in these photos because that's the size of jars that I had. But the smaller ones are even better and more waist friendly ;)

It should also be noted that the purple is more vibrant after they cool down. They were still warm when I made the photos. Sadly, they didn't last long enough for me to get one with them at their peek color. But if you can get one when they're "finished," the purple is quite vibrant as a stripe.

Granny Mae Wisdom--My favorite Disney princess? Cruella DeVil. Not only did she have the best "carriage," but she had a great coat!

If you're making the Maleficent Cake Jars or using fondant with any others, store the fondant in a separate container. If you seal it in the jar, it will get quite "squishy" and lose its shape. One of the extra bennies of using Mason jars to store cake is that it will stay extra moist. But make sure the cake is completely cooled down before you seal it in.
